The renowned doctor of the Church, St. Alponsus Liguori loved the devotion of daily visits to the Blessed Sacrament most ardently. He zealously practiced this devotion and strove to spread it by word and example. With the glowing love of a saint, he recommends this devout practice referring to instances of God’s chosen ones who received grace upon grace before the Most Blessed Sacrament.
“Disengage yourself from relations with man he says,” and henceforth spend daily at least a half or a quarter of an hour in some church in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Taste and see how sweet is the Lord. Try it, and you will learn from your own experience how many graces this will bring you. The time you pass devoutly before our Eucharistic Lord will prove the most meritorious for you in this life; and it will be the greatest consolation for you at the hour of death and for all eternity. Know also that you will probably gain more by praying fifteen minutes before the Blessed Sacrament than by all the other spiritual exercises of the day. True, Our Lord hears our prayers anywhere for He has made the promise, Ask, and you shall receive, but He has revealed to His servants that those who visit Him in the Blessed Sacrament will obtain a more abundant measure of grace.
